Film Hub Scotland is offering the opportunity for five exhibitors from across Scotland to create positions for emerging film exhibition talent from backgrounds underrepresented in the sector, under the New Promoter Scheme.
This innovative scheme will allow cinema venues or film festivals to have a paid member of the team who will work two days a week for five months. The Scheme will also provide a budget for the organisation’s overheads and for the delivery of the events.
The aim of the Scheme is to increase the number of curators and film practitioners working in Scotland from marginalised backgrounds and those with protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010.
Each organisation can apply to appoint one New Promoter, who will be responsible for curating three films in their programmes and publicising the accompanying events to general audiences with a focus on inclusion, diversity and outreach. We hope that the programme will enable participant exhibitors to support the development of emerging promoters, whilst also benefitting from their insight and experience.
Throughout the process, the New Promoter Coordinator, Justine Atkinson (Africa in Motion) will work with the partnering exhibitors to help co-manage the New Promotors. Working in consultation with the venue or festival, Justine will provide weekly task sheets, training in curation, day-to-day management and ongoing support via emails and weekly calls.
The New Promoter Coordinator role will also offer support to participating organisations ensuring that the programme is effectively marketed, and that it attracts a diverse range of candidates.
The programme is open to both venues and festivals and will run from August 2019 – December 2020, and the positions should be carried out during this period.
The Scheme will be supported by Film Hub Scotland and New Promoter Coordinator, Justine Atkinson.
Further details are available here, and the deadline for organisations to apply to take part is Monday 22 July 2019. If you have any questions, please get in touch with Justine via email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
