Free careers sessions at Glasgow Youth Film Festival

Glasgow Youth Film Festival (GYFF) is one of the most innovative youth film festivals in Europe. Programmed by young people, who are mentored on a year round basis, it presents an outstanding range of international films and creative workshops for young people across the city. The schools programme that precedes GYFF presents a wide selection of films accompanied by resources/introductions to enhance the film screenings.

The Festival's first ever Careers in Film Day will take place on Thursday 12 September, curated especially for S4 - S6 pupils across Glasgow. At the event, pupils will have the chance to participate in hands-on workshops and receive invaluable career advice from professionals for a successful career in the ever-growing Scottish film industry. The event will feature a keynote speech from Alan McDonald, a former High School teacher, Script Consultant on CBBC shows and the Writer of GFF18 Opening Gala, Anna and the Apocalypse.

A day in the Director's life

Ever wondered what happens after the Director calls ‘cut’? Find out in this inspiring workshop, presented by BAFTA Scotland, exploring what a day in a Directors life is like. Join us as director Marilyn Edmund takes us through this Into Industry session.

Marilyn began her career as an Assistant Director in 2010, working as a Floor Runner on BBC Scotland's ongoing drama River City. She has worked on a variety of films including Sunshine on Leith, Under the Skin and The Railway Man, to name a few. She has also worked on many TV comedies and dramas, including ITV's Benidorm and BBC's The Replacement.

During this time, Marilyn was learning about the craft of directing.  In 2015 Marilyn gave birth to her daughter who is the inspiration behind the name of her production company, Angel Face Productions, then in 2018 Marilyn embarked on her debut feature Connect, starring Kevin Guthrie.
