Synopsis

Based on the novel by Meg Wolitzer, The Wife sees Joan Castleman (Glenn Close), an intelligent, charming and diplomatic woman and devoted wife, questioning her life choices as she accompanies her husband, Joe (Jonathan Pryce) to Stockholm, where he is set to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature.

Joan reflects on the forty years she has spent sacrificing her own dreams and ambitions to support her husband’s successful literary career. She has put up with a lot – Joe’s infidelities, his poor excuses and the unfair amount of compromise Joan has had to make. Joan reaches her breaking point in a marriage that she has given up everything for.

Emotional, funny and thought-provoking, ‘The Wife’ celebrates a woman taking control of her own life and re-asserting her worth.

The Wife is supported by the National Lottery through Creative Scotland’s Screen Funding. Shot on location in Scotland, The Wife filmed on board Concorde at the National Museum of Flight in East Lothian, Hutcheson’s Hall in Glasgow and in Dumfries.
