What is it?
Little Pictures is a talent development and short film commissioning scheme designed to support people at the early stages of their filmmaking journey. The scheme is particularly focused on supporting underrepresented voices in the screen sector.
Through the programme, filmmakers and producers will make their first funded film in fiction, documentary, animation or experimental genres. Whether you’ve never made a film before or have created some on your own, Little Pictures offers the chance to gain practical experience, develop your voice, and take creative risks in a supportive environment.
The scheme uniquely offers two separate strands, one for filmmakers and one for producers, who receive specific training to help them pair up and make a film.
How does it work?
Participants receive story development sessions, up to £6,000 in funding, access to training and workshops, a dedicated industry mentor, and ongoing support from the GMAC team, plus free access to equipment, resources, festival strategy and distribution support.
The Little Pictures Scheme is now in its sixth year and has produced a diverse range of over 50 films from across Scotland, spanning several genres, themes, stories and perspectives.
How to apply
Applications are open to anyone over the age of 18 who are based anywhere in Scotland. Applications for our next round will open in summer 2026.
