Short Circuit programme of online events

Free webinars with leading film talent will cover everything from scriptwriting for beginners to deciding on your film festival strategy. Plus, monthly networking events and film screenings.

Short Circuit, Scotland’s new film talent initiative, has announced a free programme of online events aimed at supporting new and emerging filmmakers.

The programme features specialists from across the industry who will share their expertise with those seeking advice on their career and opportunities open to them. The programme kicks off today, Wednesday 30 September, with festival strategist Kathleen McInnes, Creative Producer for See-Through Films, curator of Seattle International Film Festival’s New Works-in-Progress Forum for Documentary and Narrative Features, and consultant for short films at Tribeca Film Festival.

With decades of experience, including directing and programming for festivals such Palm Springs ShortFest, Aspen Shortsfest, Toronto International Film Festival ShortCuts, Hot Docs, Slamdance, and Seattle International Film Festival, Katherine’s session will focus on how filmmakers use the festival circuit to their best advantage.

Multi-award winning director Peter Mackie Burns will be discussing his career from shorts through to features on Thursday 15 October. Peter’s work includes Milk which won the Golden Bear for Best Short Film at Berlin Film Festival in 2005, feature film debut, Daphne, and recent second feature, Rialto, which had its Scottish premiere at Glasgow Film Festival earlier this year.

Future sessions include scriptwriting for beginners plus an exclusive insight into Short Circuit’s First Feature scheme, due to be announced later this year. Short Circuit also offers monthly one-to-one online sessions with the Short Circuit Talent Executives.

Allison Gardner, CEO, Glasgow Film said: “These free online events are crucial for filmmakers at any stage of their career to attend, the need to connect, listen and participate has never been more important than now. Both Kathleen McInnes and Peter Mackie Burns are friends of Glasgow Film Festival and their sessions will be both informative and enlightening. With more sessions and the Short Film Club in the pipeline we are looking forward to engaging with the diversity of talent across Scotland.”

Sean Greenhorn from Screen Scotland said: “The event programme for Short Circuit promises to be engaging and insightful for Scotland’s next generation of filmmaking talent. With outreach and engagement at the heart of everything they do, Glasgow Film have ensured that the programme will be open and accessible to filmmakers across Scotland.

Also launching later this year is Short Film Club, a monthly screening event. The events will be available on Glasgow Film’s new streaming platform, featuring short films from around the world plus networking events offering filmmakers the chance to make connections and support their professional development. The first edition of the film club will feature short films curated by Galway Film Festival.
