Edinburgh Spanish Film Festival (ESFF) is back and and this year’s programme is packed with variety and vibrancy - a handpicked mix of stories to captivate every generation.
This year, the programme goes over different periods of Spain’s contemporary history: from highlighting classism in Francoist-era Valencia with The Good Manners (2025) by Celia Rico Clavellino, to navigating the intricate fight against ETA in the 1990s with Undercover (2024) by Arantxa Etxevarría.
In between them we also witness the uphill struggle of internal migrants in Barcelona with The 47 (2024) by Marcel Barrena, the marginalisation and empowerment of a group of Spanish transwomen with a restored copy of Dressed in Blue (1983) by Antonio Giménez Rico, and the current challenges faced by refugees and their allies with Pheasant Island (2025) by Asier Urbieta.
Whether you’re here to laugh, cry, or simply contemplate. ESFF is here to celebrate the power of film - and the joy of sharing it!
ESFF will also be hosting a Valencian supper club in collaboration with Tapa on Sunday 19 October.
The Festival runs from 2 - 19 October in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness and Stirling in a variety of venues including Filmhouse, The French Institute, Strathclyde, Eden Court and the McRobert centre.
