Lights, Camera, Capital as new angel investment pilot launched for Scotland's film and TV sector

Lights, Camera, Capital, a new pilot private angel investing initiative supported by Screen Scotland and the Scottish Government’s Ecosytem Fund, has been launched.

The programme will target scripted and unscripted producers who have an active development slate to better understand the motivations and ways of working of business angels, benefitting from potential investment and business mentorship.

The first phase of the initiative will deliver a structured, interactive in-person and online learning programme through a series of workshops that will take place from the end of September to the beginning of January. The workshops will be tailored for participant producers and angel investors respectively.

Selected participants must be able to demonstrate that they have the knowledge, experience and adaptability to unlock new approaches to co-investment deals.  The programme targets producers that think outside of traditional dealmaking structures and take an innovative approach to financing screen projects.

Each producer will be paired with a business angel, who will provide support throughout the programme to develop an investable proposal. These will be offered as one-to-one consultancy sessions between each pair, where mentors will be able to offer bespoke business development support to participants. The culmination of the programme will see producers to pitch their projects to a panel of angel investors to secure investment.

The pilot will run from September 2026- September 2027. It is aimed at securing development investment from angel Investors, for film and TV projects. Screen Scotland anticipates that it will back successful projects that win through at the pitching stage, alongside angel investment. The terms of Screen Scotland’s potential support per project will be developed during the programme as part of the familiarisation process.

Submissions for Lights, Camera, Capital are now open; more details on eligibility and key dates can be found on our website.

The deadline for submissions is 5pm on Monday 7 September 2026.

An online programme to learn about angel investment will also be rolled out across the coming weeks - sign up to hear more.

An elevated, wide-angle shot of a panel discussion at the 79th Edinburgh International Film Festival, held on a stage inside a dimly lit auditorium with orange and blue spotlighting. A large projection screen above the stage reads, "INDUSTRY TALK: Lights, Camera, Capital with Screen Scotland," featuring names Lynne Cadenhead, Isabel Davis, Ken Anderson, Louise Tait, Jessica Fox, and Morven Reid. On the stage, five panelists sit in dark armchairs on a patterned red rug, with small wooden side tables between them. Banners for Azets and MBM Commercial frame the stage on both sides. In the foreground, the backs of the audience members are visible as they sit in the dark, watching the presentation.

Isabel Davis, Executive Director at Screen Scotland said: "Angel investment is an exciting and innovative avenue for film and TV producers. Development funding can be very challenging to find, so we are excited by the potential alignment between Scotland’s angel investors and its creative producers to develop co-financing opportunities to collaborate on ambitious new film and TV projects from Scotland.”

Lynne Cadenhead, Angel Investor said: “This pilot is a unique opportunity to unlock the potential of Scotland’s creative industry, which already generates more than £5.7billion for the economy every year. We are really excited to be bringing our established and thriving angel investment community together with Scotlands’s wealth of creative talent. We can’t wait to see what comes from it.”

Inspirent, Ecosystem Fund Manager, said“Lights, Camera, Capital is a great example of the type of collaboration the Ecosystem Fund was designed to support – bringing together different parts of Scotland’s entrepreneurial ecosystem to test new approaches and create new opportunities. We’re delighted to support this pilot and look forward to seeing the partnerships and investment opportunities that develop through the programme.”
