Development Executives announced for TRC’s SuperSizer

After a big increase in the number of applications from all four nations, TRC has announced the fourteen successful delegates for their professional development programme SuperSizer funded by the National Lottery through Screen Scotland, Channel 4 and BBC Nations & Regions.

The programme, which first launched in 2017, supports the growth of Development Executives to win high value commissions and develop ideas of scale for the next big returning series, with the aim to transform indies in the Nations and Regions.

Following the successful pivot last year to online only training, this year’s programme will be delivered in a hybrid model, mixing in-person and online training, including a trip to London to meet commissioners and broadcasters in March 2022. Previous contributors to the programme have included BBC, Channel 4, Channel 5, ITV, Sky and Netflix.

As well as gaining exclusive access to leading broadcasters and commissioners, the delegates will receive exceptional training on a variety of topics such as pitching, personal branding and how to lead a creative team.

Margaret Scott and Claire Scally, Joint Managing Directors of TRC said:

“The fifth edition of SuperSizer is the first time we have delivered the programme part online and part in-person.   Last year taught us that there are some benefits to delivering aspects of training remotely and this year we have retained those elements, whilst bringing back the all-important face to face training we all missed in 2020.   We were once again amazed by the quality and quantity of applications we received, a testament to the talent across the UK in our industry.’

David Smith, Director of Screen at Screen Scotland said:

“We have supported TRC’s SuperSizer since its launch in 2017, and it has only grown in importance since then, building vital connections with commissioners, helping Scotland-based talent win new business. It is fantastic to see the outstanding talent from across Scotland taking part in this year’s programme.  We are actively increasing the range of Screen Scotland’s support for factual producers and programme makers and SuperSizer is a core part of how we do that.”
