Allan Hunter reflects on his time as GFF co-director after 15 years at the helm

The Glasgow Film Festival 2023 marks the final year with Allan Hunter at the helm. Allan has co-directed the annual Scottish festival with Allison Gardner since its inception in 2007.

Over the past 15 years, Allan has overseen the continued success of GFF and ensured that the festival continues to nurture Scottish filmmaking talent and provide a platform for new voices. During his tenure, the festival has attracted notable names such as Richard Gere, Alan Rickman, John C Reilly, Saoirse Ronan, and Richard Dreyfuss.

We spoke with Allan in GFT's Cinema 2, where he reflected on how the Scottish screen sector has developed during his time, why audiences have always been at the forefront of the festival, and what his highlights have been over the last decade and a half.

On behalf of everyone at Screen Scotland, we would like to thank Allan Hunter for his incredible dedication to the festival. We wish him all the best in his retirement.
