What is it?
Wee Wonders Scotland officially opens across Scotland on Monday 17 November 2025 to support new and emerging talent in writing and directing for animation, nurturing authentic voices to produce four short animations between 1-3 minutes in length.
Wee Wonders Scotland is looking for original ideas of all animation styles and open to any age range of audience from children and family through to adult animation, and encourage creatives from traditionally excluded backgrounds to apply.
Successful talent will receive up to £7K funding to write a final draft script and to produce the animated film. Selected participants will also receive regular one-to-one sessions, development workshops, editorial support and industry mentorship per specialised animation style of project.
Led by Programme Manager Wilma Smith, the scheme aims to achieve bold, brave and daring calling cards that can travel the film festival circuit and connect with international audiences and help kickstart careers in the Scottish animation industry.
Wee Wonders Scotland is funded by Screen Scotland and run by Visible Fictions in partnership with Manipulate Arts, North Lanarkshire Coucil, Edinburgh Short Film Festival, and supported by Animation Scotland and Clanimation.
